The Science
WHAT IS OXIDATIVE STRESS?
Oxidative stress is an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), more commonly known as free radicals, and our skin's natural ability to readily detoxify these reactive intermediates or easily repair the resulting damage. Skin is a major target of oxidative stress due to exposure from environmental stressors such as solar ultraviolet radiation (UVA & UVB), pollution, smoke, microorganisms and external stress.

WHAT IS PHOTOAGING?
Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in photoaging. Sun exposure and other sources of UV radiation contribute significantly to photoaging which is characterized by the early appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, irregular pigmentation, loss of elasticity and skin dehydration.
HOW DO ANTIOXIDANTS PROTECT THE SKIN FROM PHOTOAGING?
Topical antioxidants counteract the effects of oxidative stress and have clinical anti-photoaging properties. A comprehensive and integrated topical antioxidant is considered to be crucial in protecting the skin from oxidative stress and consequently preventing the photoaging process.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF OXIDATIVE STRESS ON THE SKIN?
Increased or prolonged free radical action contributes to adverse effects on the skin, including inflammation, redness, wrinkling, hypersensitivity, hyperpigmentation, photoaging and other skin conditions.
